The prose written during those two years produced several sub-genres, such as Moreno Villa’s impressions, Bergamín’s portraits, and Hinojosa’s automatic writings, as well as the experimental narrative by Jarnés, Espina, and Chabás, and the more realistic writings by Díaz Fernández.
José Moreno Villa wrote Pruebas de Nueva York (Málaga, 1927) after his visit to the United States. Benjamín Jarnés published his sharp leaflet, Ejercicios (Madrid, 1927), and El convidado de papel (Madrid, 1928). Antonio Espina published Pájaro pinto (1927) in Nova Novorum, Revista de Occidente’s new poetry collection. José Bergamín’s Caracteres (I-XXX) was Litoral’sthird supplement (Málaga, 1927). José Díaz Fernández’s El blocao. Novela de la guerra marroquí (Madrid, 1928) was a great success and its second edition was published immediately. Juan Chabás published Sin velas, desvelada (Barcelona, 1927), Puerto de sombra (Madrid, 1928), and the essay, Italia fascista (política y literatura), also in 1928. José María Hinojosa published the poetic prose, La flor de Californía in Malaga (1928), with a prologue by José Moreno Villa, and illustrations by Joaquín Peinado.
