Centenario Residencia de Estudiantes

program

The Residencia de Estudiantes celebrated its 100th anniversary in the year 2010, and in honor of the occasion, has organized a series of activities and events with the aim of sharing the past and present of the Residencia, an emblematic point of reference for contemporary European culture and history, which was designated as a European Heritage Site in 2007. Along with the public institutions and private corporations that make up its Board, the Residencia, from its home in Madrid, presented its centennial as a celebration open to the participation of other cities, countries and all interested individuals and institutions.

The celebration will continue throughout 2011, in the Residencia de Estudiantes as well as in other centers and cities in Spain, in addition to offering an international dimension, especially in Europe and South America, which corresponds to the cosmopolitan character that has always distinguished the Residencia.

Until April 24, 2011, the program of exhibitions will include Viajeros por el conocimiento (Travellers through knowledge), dedicated to the great travelers who were invited to the Residencia at the beginning of the 20th century, where they recounted their experiences of and findings about different cultures and civilizations to the residents. The exhibition is completed with the historical recreation of a room of the Residencia de Estudiantes and the works created in the gardens by five young artists. All of the exhibitions include educational components and a guided tour option.
