"ETERNAL YOUTH"

At the bottom right angle: Federico García Lorca, León Sánchez Cuesta, and Salvador Dalí. On the top row: Ángel Garma (second on the right), Ricardo Orueta and Gonzalo Gurriarán (seated, the third and fourth on the left), Paulino Suárez and Claudio Sánchez Albornoz (standing in the middle). During the eighteen years when José Moreno Villa lived in the Residencia de Estudiantes he felt surrounded by a particularly creative environment that encouraged work and personal responsibility but also leisure and fun in which joy showed its the transforming power.

A good example is the famous group formed around the singular figure of José Bello (Pepín), with Federico García Lorca, Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel. Their spirit of transgression, typical of the avant-garde,Group of residents in front of the Transatlántico Pavilion, March 1925, Madrid is shown in the drawings they named  "the rotten", term referred to the outdated, boring and bourgeois, or the anaglifos, a peculiar verse form that became very popular among residents, their nocturnal wanderings or the "Order of Toledo “, their theatrical evenings, as their performance of The desecration of Tenorio, a parody of Zorrilla's work ... Their later work reveals a special influence of this environment and their living together in those years. Un Chien Andalou, a film that Buñuel and Dali wrote, cannot be understood without the imaginary world forged in the Residencia de Estudiantes. Buñuel explained in a letter to Bello that the film, released in 1929, would be “the film that you will love the most. All our things are on the screen." .
