In 1950, Altolaguirre travels to Madrid and Malaga to visit his relatives and some old friends. From 1952 on, he collaborates with the Malaga journal Caracola. He returns to Mexico and founds with Gómez Mena Producciones Isla, a company that will produce films such as Yo quiero ser tonta (1950); Doña Clarines (1951); El puerto de los siete vicios (1952); Subida al cielo (1952), a film directed by Buñuel that goes on to win awards in Paris and Mexico; Prisionera del recuerdo (1952), and Misericordia (1953). Gómez Mena and Altolaguirre live in Havana between 1953 and 1955 and produce the films Los inmigrantes, Golpe de suerte and Cuando baila Trinidad (Leyenda musical de Cuba). In 1955, Altolaguirre publishes his last book of poems, Poemas en América, in Malaga.
