In March of 1943, the couple moves to Mexico, where Altolaguirre works as manager of the press of the Ministry of Public Education.
He edits, on his own initiative, the collection "Aires de mi España.”
In March of 1944, Altolaguirre leaves Concha Méndez and goes to live with María Luisa Gómez Mena. He publishes Poemas de Las islas invitadas shortly thereafter, as the first supplement of Litoral, the journal that now reappears with Altolaguirre, Prados, Moreno Villa, Juan Rejano and Francisco Giner de los Ríos on the editorial board.
